Possessió de Ses Cabanasses, al terme municipal de Petra. 400 quarterades i 230 ovelles. 30 hectàrees d'ametlerar i 10 de garrover.
Fa 5 anys que en Jaume es dedica professionalment a la pagesia, tot i que abans ja ho compatibilitzava amb una altra feina. En aquell moment va fer la conversió de la finca a ecològic i actualment participa en el projecte de promoció del ME ecològic de Mallorca. Li demanam el per què de convertir la finca en ecològic i ell ens respon que per dos motius.
JAUME: Primer, per principis. Per no esquitxar i per tenir un contacte amb la natura més ferm. I segon, per economia. En convencional teníem 400 ovelles i el preu era tan barat que suposava una lluita perquè cada vegada havia de tenir més animals per obtenir els mateixos doblers. Quan vam fer el canvi fa 5 anys, vam apostar per tenir menys quantitat però de més qualitat i poder demanar el preu que toca.
En Jaume és actualment el president d'APAEMA (Associació de Producció Agrària Ecològica de Mallorca), entitat que fa 1 any va idear el projecte de promoció del ME ecològic. Fa un any a Mallorca hi havia 15.000 ovelles censades en ecològic, però només es venien 100 mens ecològics a l'any. Exisitia un tap a l'hora de comercialitzar la carn, ja que el Reglament europeu d'Ae 834/2007 només permetia vendre-la a botigues inscrites al CBPAE i amb uns estrictes requisits. Després de vàries reunions amb en consell regulador (CBPAE), varen poder obtenir un marcador. Aquest segell els va donar accés a tot tipus de carnisseries i comerços.
JAUME: En primer lloc, quan el consumidor compra carn amb el segell de ME ecològic, sap que està comprant carn de qualitat. I, en segon lloc, sap que és carn d'aquí i que està ajudant els pagesos d'aquí. Sap qui és el productor i té la certesa que no és una carn que ve de fora.
En Jaume ens mostra gran part de la finca, des d'on es veu tota la Serra de Tramuntana. Ens mostra una mata gegant, que sembla ser la més gran de Mallorca. Fa força vent i no és un bon dia per fer vídeo, així és que hi haurem de tornar un altre dia. Continuarà...
